How to Clean and Prep Your Brick Slips for Pointing
If you're looking to install brick slips, you want a beautiful and professional-looking finished product. That's why proper pointing is key. However, during installation, there's a chance that adhesive residue or dust from cutting the slips could have ended up on the face and edges of the brick slips. Fortunately, cleaning your brick slips is an easy and important step you can take to ensure a polished final product. Here's how to do it:
You'll need:
-
A duster
-
A vacuum cleaner.
-
A sponge, cloth, or rag
-
A wire brush
-
Salt
-
A bucket
-
Washing liquid or mild detergent
First, make sure your brick slips have been dusted and vacuumed to remove any dirt or dust that may have collected on their surfaces. Then, take a hard wire brush and use it to apply the cleaning solution to the brick slips. Dip the wire brush in the soapy water and begin cleaning the wall, taking your time. Once you're finished, let the solution sit for around 15 minutes.
Afterward, use a wet sponge or cloth to remove the cleaning solution. Rinse the sponge regularly to ensure all solution is removed. Make sure to remove all solution, and if you find more remaining once it has dried, use a scrubbing brush or cloth to remove it.
While it's not mandatory, we recommend sealing the brick slips at this point to give yourself an added level of protection against staining. Sealing before pointing also helps protect your brick slips from potentially being stained with residue from the pointing mortar.
With these easy steps, your brick slips will look good as new and be ready for you to point your brick slips to perfection!
