Generl Brick Slip questions
Brick Slips are thin slices of brick style tiles. In short they have the texture and apperance of a brick but instead of being 65mm thick they are just 15-20mm thick allowing you to install them on to a wall (like a tile) to acheive a brick effect finish.
Yes, all of our brick slips are pre-casted which means rather then being cut from the face of a brick they are purpose made brick slips suitable for all applications.
Our brick slips are made using a few materials, these materials are white cement, pumice and oxy dyes. Together these materials are mixed to create a strong adn resitant brick slips. Once mixed together this is then poured in to moulds and oven fired to create the brick slip. Once created they are then hand stained and sealed.
Nothing, brick tiles is just another nake used for brick slips but really, it is the exact same product. This is the case unless a manufacturer is specifying that they are made from ceramic or porcelain in which case they are just a tile with a brick design printed on them.
Our brick slip sizes vary from slip to slip however, if you access any product page you can view the specifications under product details which will specify the length, width and depth of the brick slips.
Brick Slips vary in their cost but the cost can be seen on the individual product pages. In general a box of brick slips will cost between £29.99 and £39.99 depending on the design.
This is specific to each brick slip type, again this will be displayed on the individual brick slip product pages. Generally our brick slips are between 15mm and 20mm thick
Yes, our brick slips have been designed and perfected over many years to ensure they offer a true to life brick finish in both apperance and texture. Our Brick Slips all come with an option to order a sample to allow you to see they beauty yourself!
Brick slip, like tiles or, real brick doesnt have an expiary date or, shelf life. in the right enviroment and when installed properly, brick slips should last a lifetime.
Brick slips dont come in a "pattern" our brick slips are all indivdual slips, a pattern can be acheived using our brick slips. More can be seen here.
All of our brick slips are sold per box which covers 0.5m2 when used with standard 10mm spacers. Some of our brick slips are larger then others, in this case there are less per box although the coverage will be the same. So depending on the brick slip, there is between 24-30 brick slips per box.

In general, no planning permission is needed to install brick slips! However if you are planning on using them for the external elements of your property you may need to check you are not in a conservation area or that your property is not grade listed. If you are unsure we would recommend checking with your local palnning office.
There is not many places that brick slips can not be installed and generally it is not an issue with the brick slips that can make some situations tricky but more the installation. For example fixing brick slips to Metal or PVC can be difficult and these would require special fixing materials. Fixing to soft woods such as ply, chip board or wood cladding could cause the brick slips to fail as these woods rreact to their climate meaning they can shrink and expand with changes in temprature.
Corner Brick Slips And Samples
A corner brick slip is an "L" shaped brick slip used for external corners such as chimeny breasts, pillars and corners of a house. Using corner brick slips prevents the need for any joins.
Corner brick slips are used for any external corners (corners that stick out) internal corners are dealt with by using standard brick slips.
Corner brick slips are offered on all brick slip product pages. simply head to any product page and below the image will be a drop down box where you can select corner packs.
The amount of corners you need depends on your project. They are sold as packs that cover 0.5 meters in height. Which means if you have a chimney breast that is 2.4 meters high you would need 5 corner packs for each side. IF you have any issues measuring or, would like to speak to someone about our brick slips, you can speak to our live chat 7 days a week.
For most of our brick slips, there are 7 corners per 0.5 meters in height. For some of our larger brick slips that are 70mm wide there would be 6 corners per pack.

Brick Slip Installation
This guide covers 5 simple steps to help you install brick slips inside or outside your home.
Are Brick Slips East To Fit?
Yes brick slips are relatively easy to fit, they can be installed by almost anyone with little to know DIY knowledge. As with any home improvement, brick slips and their installation is all about preparation. A properly prepared surfaced will ensure the most professional finish. Other material needed include the below:
Brick Slip Spacers
Brick Slip Adhesive
Brick Slip Pointing Mortar
Brick Sealer (optional)
How Do You Install Brick Slips And The Tools You Will Need
Whilst preparing to install Brick Slips. We also need to consider tools needed as well as equipment to keep you safe! A prepared list below is just some of the items we advise investing in before installing brick slips.
Face Mask
Eye Protection
Floor protection (dust sheet)
Spirit Level
Mixing Bucket
Adhesive Trowel
Wet Tile Saw
Pointing Gun
Stiff Brush
Step 1 - Preparing A Wall For Brick Slip Installation
Preparing the wall for your Brick slip installation is vital! To do this we would advise starting with laying down your floor covering, ensuring that the floor is completely covered. Then clean the wall surface you want it free of any dust as the adhesive will fix to this and not the wall surface. For any stubborn dust, grease etc use sand paper to get the wall as smooth and clean as possible.
Once the wall is clean and dried it is the recommended to use a tile primer this can be brought from almost any DIY store. priming the wall will create a sealed surface to fix your brick slips too. Installing on a surface that is not primed may lead to the brick slips not holding as well as they should.
Step 2 - Sticking The Brick Slips To The Wall
Brick Slips are installed to the wall using brick slip or tile adhesive. These materials are the same and serve the same purpose. You need to ensure you use a tile adhesive you are comfortable to work with, you can use either rapid setting or slow setting. On the back of the adhesive packet you should find manufacturer mixing instructions, follow these instructions to ensure a consistent and well mixed adhesive bond.
Step 3 - Installing Your First Brick Slips
To do this you want to start by finding the centre of the wall. Once found draw a Horizontal line from bottom to top. you will then draw another horizontal line either side of this exactly half a brick slip apart. Once you have these two lines, starting from the bottom lay your first row of brick slips from either of the two lines using the brick slip adhesive and your tile trowel. Ideally you want to use a 6mm notched trowel. The adhesive should be applied to the wall and not the brick slip. For your next row you will start from the second horizontal line, this will give you your brick bond pattern. Then you will just swap between the two lines.
Step 4 - Using The Brick Slip Spacers To Install Brick Slips
You need to use the 10mm brick slip spacers between each brick (so no bricks touch) this will provide a consistent finish for your wall, the gap will also be consistent as will your mortar join.
Step 5 - How To Point Brick Slips
Brick Slips are pointed using brick slip mortar. The purpose of mortar is to fill the gaps between the brick slips and assist in the overall finish of your project. There are many different colours of brick slip mortar which can be brought from many places such as b&q or wickes. As with Brick Slip adhesive, mortar is to be mixed in line with the manufacturers advise on the back of each packet. Once mixed we recommend investing in a pointing gun for a quicker, easier and cleaner finish. A pointing gun allows you to fill a tube up with your mixed mortar and squeeze it in to the gaps. You will then get your pointing trowel and trowel all the mortar smooth.
Below is a list of materials and tools you will need to install brick slips. Unfortuantely we only stock brick slip adhesive but mortar, cutting equipment etc can all be brought from the likes of B&Q.

Yes, all of our brick slips are Fire Rated A1 which means they are non-combustible and can be used around all heat sources such as log burners etc.
We find that the best method to cut brick slips is either a wet tile or angle grinder.
The adhesive we offer on our website is our tried and tested adhesive which is fast setting. However any flexible based tile adhesive will be suitable with our Brick Slips.
We already apply a sealer to the brick slips as part of the manufacturing process however, we always advise adding another coat once installed you can but a matt (clear) brick sealer from most hardware stores.
Yes, although brick slips require very little maintenace, we advise nothing more then a spray bottle with disinfectant and a hard wire bursh.
Calcualting Brick Slips And Accessories
All of our brick slips are sold in boxes with each box containing enough slips to cover 0.5m2. With this in mind it is very easy to work out the amount you require. there are two ways in which you can do this, the first is to contact us via live chat below with your measurments and we will work it out for you. Alternatively,
Simply measure the width of the wall (in meters) and then measure the height of the wall (in meters) once you have these two measurements, multiply them together and then divide by 2. This will give you the total number of Brick Slip boxes you need.
For Example: Height is 2 meters and width is 2 meters. 2 x 2 = 4 then multiply that by 2 = 8.
To work out the number of corners is very easy, you can either ask a member of our live chat below or, follow these instructions.
Corners are sold in packs that cover 0.5 meters in height. So if you have a chimeny breast that is 2.5m high on both sides (5 meters total) you would need 10 corner packs.
We always recommend over ordering your brick slips! Once you factor the cutting and the odd mistake we estitmate you would need an extra 15% on top of your surface area so if you need 8 boxes we would advise ordering 9 etc.
We recommend one bag of our Brick Slip adhesive for every 10 boxes of brick slips.
We do not sell Mortar due to the low expiary date it holds and the many different shades available but, this can be brought from B&Q etc. You will need one bag for every 7 boxes of brick slips.
We recommend 200-400 spacers for any brick slip project. Spacers are re-usable and our adhesive is fast setting so you can use the same spacers along your whole project.
