General Stone Slip questions
Stone Slips are thin slices of stone style tiles, often reffered to as stone cladding. In short they have the texture and apperance of real stone but instead of being up to 80mm thick and really heavy, they are just 25-50mm thick allowing you to install them on to a wall (like a tile) to acheive a stone effect finish.
Our stone cladding is made using a few materials, these materials are white cement, pumice and oxy dyes. Together these materials are mixed to create strong and resitant Stone Cladding. Once mixed together this is then poured in to moulds and oven fired to create the stone slip. Once created they are then hand stained and sealed.
Nothing, stone slips is just another name used for Stone Cladding but really, it is the exact same product. This is the case unless a manufacturer is specifying that they are a panel or a board. our Stone Slips are all indivdual.
Our Stone Cladding is designed to offer a relaistic and random stacked stone finish (as per the images) this means almost every stone slip is a different shape and shade. our stone slip pieces can be anywehere from 5cm x 5cm all the way to 35cm x 40cm. If you access any product page you can view the specifications under product details which will specify dimensions of our Stone Cladding.
This is specific and also random depending on which stone cladding product you select, again this will be displayed on the individual s slip product pages. Generally our Stone Cladding is between 20mm and 50mm thick.
Yes, our stone slips have been designed and perfected over many years to ensure they offer a true to life stone finish in both apperance and texture. Our Stone Cladding all comes with an option to order a sample to allow you to see they beauty yourself!
There is no pattern when it comes to our stone cladding, they are all random sized individual slips and are designed to be installed randomly with smaller pieces filling the gaps of larger peices. Therefore no spacers are used either.
We can not put a numbero n the amount of stone slips per box as it is completely random, but one mould contains enough slips to cover 0.8m2 so your box can contain anywehre from 20 - 40 pieces of stone cladding depending on the size of the pieces.
Stone Slips And Their Uses
Yes our stone cladding has been designed and tested to work outside, many of our customers use our stone cladding externally for cladding walls, homes and extensions. They are all frost-proof and pre-sealed.
Yes, as per many of our product photos, our Stone Cladding can be installed in the kitchen as either a feature wall or spalshback Do bare in mind that stone slips are a little harder to clean then a smooth glossy tile however, you can apply a stone sealer to them to make them easier to clean.
Yes, our stone slips can be used in the bathroom, all you would need to do is ensure the base is water resistant such as a plastered wall or brick wall and that you seal the stone slips once installed.
Our Stone Cladding is completely frost-resistant which means once installed outside there is no risk of the stone slips cracking or failing providing they have been installed properly.
Yes, our stone slips are avalible to buy for everyone, personal, trade and commercial so whatever you need you can order directly via our website. We keep the prices of our stone cladding as low as possible which means we do not offer reduced pricing to trade.
In general, no planning permission is needed to install stone cladding! However if you are planning on using them for the external elements of your property you may need to check you are not in a conservation area or that your property is not grade listed. If you are unsure we would recommend checking with your local palnning office.
There is not many places that our stone cladding slips can not be installed and generally it is not an issue with the stone slips that can make some situations tricky but more the installation. For example fixing stone slips to Metal or PVC can be difficult and these would require special fixing materials. Fixing to soft woods such as ply, chip board or wood cladding could cause the stone cladding to fail as these woods react to their climate meaning they can shrink and expand with changes in temprature.
Corner Stone Slips And Samples
A corner Stone slip is an "L" shaped Stone slip used for external corners such as chimeny breasts, pillars and corners of a house. Using corner stone slips prevents the need for any joins for a more natrual stone finish.
Corner stone slips are used for any external corners (corners that stick out) internal corners are dealt with by using standard stone slips. We also sell Quoins which are a flat, large consistent stone piece for a corner feature.
The amount of corners you need depends on your project. They are sold as packs that cover 1 meter in height. Which means if you have a chimney breast that is 2.4 meters high you would need 5 corner packs in total. If you have any issues measuring or, would like to speak to someone about our stone cladding, you can speak to our live chat 7 days a week.

Stone Cladding Installation
As stone cladding grows in popularity, more people are looking to take advantage of it and improve the look of their home.
Furthermore, people are now looking at installing it themselves because they want to make savings and still benefit from all that stone cladding offers.
So, when it comes to fitting stone cladding, it is important to recognise that it does take time, it will require precision and an element of skill. However, if you are fairly capable at DIY and have the time and precision then there is no reason why you cannot take this job on yourself, so let’s take a look at what is involved. Cutting Stone CladdingBefore you begin installing your stone cladding, it makes sense to cover how it is cut so it fits the required design.
To undertake this task correctly, you will need certain equipment and you will need a wet saw. Some of these models will come with a fixed blade while the other might have a moveable tray although both versions will make it possible to cut each piece. You should look to purchase a diamond-tipped blade as this will enable you to achieve a cut that is clean and precise.
The amount of work involved will depend on the area you are covering. If the wall is clean, only the pieces near the corner will need to be trimmed. However, if there are power outlets or other fixtures such as pipes and light switches then more cutting will be required. For those kinds of cuts, you will need an angle grinder but one thing to be sure of is your safety. Make sure you wear a dust mask, goggles and some ear protection.
Fitting Stone Cladding Now that you have sharpened your knowledge of cutting stone cladding, you can move onto the stage of installing it.Before you begin, you will need to prepare the surface. This means removing any grease, oil, paint or debris as this will give you a firm subsurface. Once clean and dry, you can then begin to apply the primer and allow it to dry. Once this has dried, you can begin to mix your adhesive and this is where you should opt for a cement-based adhesive.
The process is very similar to fitting standard tiles and so, you should start from the bottom and work up. The first bottom row is crucial as this will need to be level and will create a baseline for the remaining pieces. You can either apply the adhesive to the back of the stone cladding or you can opt to apply it directly to the wall and then fix the cladding to it. Each piece will need to be pushed gently in place so it can embed itself into the adhesive. With corder slips these are sold in packs containing enough slips to cover 1 linear meter in height, always install the corner slips first. So, that is the process of installing stone cladding and for some, it will be a task that is relatively straightforward. Remember to take your time and you will have a look and finish that you can be proud of.
Below is a list of materials and tools you will need to install stone slips. Unfortuantely we only stock stone cladding adhesive but mortar, cutting equipment etc can all be brought from the likes of B&Q.

Calculating Stone Slips And Accessories
All of our stone slips are sold in boxes with each box containing enough slips to cover 0.8m2. With this in mind it is very easy to work out the amount you require. There are two ways in which you can do this, the first is to contact us via live chat below with your measurments and we will work it out for you. Alternatively,
Simply measure the width of the wall (in meters) and then measure the height of the wall (in meters) once you have these two measurements, multiply them together and then divide by 0.8 This will give you the total number of Brick Slip boxes you need.
For Example: Height is 2 meters and width is 2 meters. 2 x 2 = 4 then divide that by 0.8 = 5.
To work out the number of corners is very easy, you can either ask a member of our live chat below or, follow these instructions.
Corners are sold in packs that cover 1 meters in height. So if you have a chimeny breast that is 2m high on both sides (4 meters total) you would need 4 corner packs.
We always recommend over ordering your stone slips! Once you factor the cutting and the odd mistake we estitmate you would need an extra 15% on top of your surface area so if you need 8 boxes we would advise ordering 9 etc.
We recommend one bag of our Stone Slip adhesive for every 4 boxes of stone slips.
