Installing Stone Cladding? Don’t Forget the Stone Sealer!

We are all aware of the way in which stone can be extremely resistant and hard-wearing while it can withstand extreme temperatures, UV rays and more. However, when it comes to installing your stone cladding, there is no use in assuming that all will be good because you need to make sure that you protect this wonderful product.

After spending money on your stone cladding, you're going to want to make sure that it lasts and to do that, you will need a stone sealer.

What Makes Stone Sealer So Important?

If you are going to want to protect your stone cladding then you will want to make sure that you apply sealer. This is the easiest and quickest way of protecting your cladding from stains, etching and other damage. Furthermore, cleaning your stone cladding will be easier and it will make it easier to manage which means that getting rid of dirt, grease and grime is an easy task.

Stone is porous and so, you should look to use a product that will penetrate inside of the stone. This will ensure that the cladding is protected both inside and outside, giving it better protection. It will repel water better, and become more breathable while the stone will always be simple to clean.

Applying and Removing Sealer

To begin applying sealer, you will need to prepare the surface of your stone slips. Therefore, you have to make sure that it is clean which means removing any other sealers or waxes. Prior to applying your sealer, you should test it on an inconspicuous area but it is important to remember that the surface should be dry for a minimum of 24 hours before application and after you have applied it. Therefore, make sure you check the weather and make sure that no rain is forecast.

The sealer can be applied using a solvent-resistant pump sprayer and you should look to work in sections, ensuring that the surface is covered evenly. All excess product should be removed from the stone cladding using a clean and dry cloth

All You Need to Know About Sealer

There are also a number of other things that you need to know about sealers. When it comes to drying time, you should expect it to take anything from 24 to 72 hours, so avoid touching the surface or doing anything to it during this time. This will ensure that the mixture fully cures and protects your stone cladding as you expect it to.

Ok, now you think that your stone cladding is protected, and it is, but how long does it last for? On the whole, it will last for anything for 3 to 5 years, so you can expect to have to reapply it during this time but how long it lasts is dependent on a number of factors such as the type of sealer and the quality as well as the porosity of the stone and how much wear and tear it has been exposed to.

So, stone slips should be seen as an investment in your home, which means that it makes perfect sense to protect it.
